A messaging app with a focus on improving the voicemail experience
Libon is a Skype-style app for making unlimited free calls to your contacts on Libon, as well as cheap calls to mobiles and landlines. It also acts an alternative to your phone's SMS app by allowing you to send messages to your contacts regardless of whether they have the Libon installed or not.
Read your voicemails
With an excellently designed interface, Libon works superbly as a messaging app. The messaging menu is broken down into unread and all messages, with all messages able to be sorted by type (text or voice).
Another area where Libon differentiates itself in the messaging market is with its voicemail offering. You can receive your voicemails as a text message, as well as assign different greetings to your contacts. It's also really quick and easy to find audio messages as they are stored in your chat history with each contact.
Cheap calls for a limited time
While Libon gifts you some free minutes to get started, and you can make free calls to other users of the app, to make any further calls you must purchase some "Libon Out" credit. This credit can be bought in bundles of 50, 100, 200, and 500 minutes. However these minutes only last for 30 days.
To make calls you need a strong mobile data connection or WiFi. Call quality when either of these are present is strong.
Perfect for voicemail lovers
Libon is most useful if you have many friends using the app or you receive a lot of voicemail. While its calls are competitively priced, it doesn't offer any serious competition to the likes of Skype due to its lack of features, although it is a useful alternative to the stock messaging app.
